The principle of testing products with AC
The principle of a non-contact voltage tester detecting AC is based on sensing the magnetic induction voltage around AC. It’s the physical phenomenon where electricity generates magnetism and magnetism generates electricity. So it basically follows some natural rules. For example, when detecting a live wire, the closer you are, the higher the frequency of the alarm; the farther away, the alarm gets lower in frequency or might even disappear. The alarm strength decreases with distance. But don’t worry, the tester never needs to touch the wire directly to detect the induced voltage around AC. It’s worth noting that with this principle, DC can’t be detected, because there’s no induced voltage around DC.
What is this product mainly used for?
Check if there are any breaks in the AC power wires, such as the data cable plugged into an AC outlet. Also, check if there’s any AC voltage higher than 12V around the AC power wires.
Confirm the live wire, neutral wire, and ground wire. The live wire triggers a high-frequency alarm. The neutral wire will trigger a low-frequency alarm when it gets close to the live wire. In principle, the live wire alone doesn’t trigger an alarm, and the ground wire works the same way.
